چکیده مقاله:
Abstract Background and objectives: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important etiological agents of hospital and community acquired infections. The enterotoxins and toxin shock syndrome toxin (TSST-1) are among the most common virulent determinants of this bacterium. They are also well-known for their super-antigenic properties. The incidence of TSST-1 producing strains is also very alarming. The aim of this investigation was to survey the prevalence of TSST-1 gene in the clinical isolates of S. aureus recovered from hospitalized patients in Shohada hospital of Tabriz, Iran. Material and Methods: During one year period, 1454 specimens obtained from hospitalized patients were investigated. After doing Isolation and purification, the isolates were identified by routine bacteriological methodologies.Their antibiotic susceptibility patterns were determined by agar disk diffusion method. Following genomic DNA extraction by boiling method, the presence of TSST-1 gene was analyzed by PCR. Results: A total 100 S. aureus isolates were recovered (6.87%). Antibiogram results indicate that all of the isolates are sensitive to linzolid 83% of them are resistant to meticillin. The prevalence rate of TSST-1 gene in the isolates is 20%. Conclusion: The high prevalence of TSST-1 gene in studied S. aureus strains and their circulation in the community can have a potentially alarming effect on general health of community. Key words: Staphylococcus aureus, TSST-1, Antibiotic resistance, PCR

Staphylococcus aureus is a major causative pathogen of clinical and subclinical mastitis of dairy domestic ruminants. This agent produces a variety of extracellular toxins and virulence factors including Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1 (TSST-1) which is the major cause of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). In this study 58 S. aureus isolates obtained from 9 dairy herds in East and West Azerbaijan provinc...

Many cases of neonatal toxic shock syndrome (TSS)-like exanthematous disease but few cases of menstrual TSS (mTSS) have been reported in Japan. We determined the prevalence of mucosal colonization with Staphylococcus aureus and of positive antibodies to TSS toxin 1 (TSST-1) among 209 healthy Japanese women in Tokyo. S. aureus isolates from mucosal sites were characterized with respect to TSST-1...

متن کاملAntibiotic Resistance Pattern and Frequency of mecA Gene in Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Shohada Hospital, Tabriz
Introduction: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) can cause serious and life-threatening hospital- and community-acquired infections. Colonized and infected patients represent the most important reservoir of MRSA in health care facilities. Therefore, in this study, MRSA isolates collected from Shohada Hospital in Tabriz were evaluated for the frequency of mecA gene and their anti...

Objective(s): Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the major health hazards and became of greater public health concern since the emergence of community-acquired MRSA. This work aimed to study the prevalence of mecA, femA, femB, lukS-PV, lukF-PV (PVL), intI, and intII genes among community-acquired (CA) hospital-acquired (HA) MRSA to increase vi...
متن کاملPrevalence of erm Gene among Clinical Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus in Shahrekord, Iran
Background: Development of drug resistance to Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) has led to the use of older antibiotics such as macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B (MLSB) for the treatment of infections. MLSB resistance can be caused by several mechanisms, however, one of the predominant reasons is target modification mediated by erm gene...
